Sonoran Sounds is an all-volunteer group of people who treasure music.  Singers, the director, and the accompanist rehearse and perform for the love of music and to share that commitment with audiences throughout the northwest valley of Phoenix.  The chorale is made up of women who are individually experienced with backgrounds in different fields of music, including musical theater, teachers of music, vocal jazz, classical performance and various instruments.  These talents appear as soloists or to accompany the group instrumentally.

Musical director:  Ms. Sun Joo Lee.

Sonorassdir2014n Sounds is now under the direction of Ms. Sun Joo Lee who accepted the baton from retiring director Clare Doornbos in May, 2014. Ms Lee comes with exceptional training and background and is welcomed by the members of the chorale. Ms. Lee was born in Seoul Korea and has an undergraduate degree from SungShin Women’s University in Seoul. She moved to Arizona in 2003 to study voice and music therapy and earned two master’s degrees from Arizona State University in 2008. Upon graduation Sun Joo was approached by the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center in Phoenix to establish a singing group for people with Parkinson’s disease in the Sun City area. The group known as the West Side Tremble Clefs has a counterpart on the east side in Chandler also directed by Ms. Lee. She is the choir director at St. Columba Kim Korean Catholic Church in Chandler and gives private voice lessons.
